Vehicle-kilometer Statistics, 2017

Total vehicle-km was calculated as 304 billion 207 millionIn Turkey, road motor vehicles⁽¹⁾ registered to the traffic travelled 304 billion 207 million kilometers in 2017. Passenger cars constituted 51.9% of total vehicle-km⁽²⁾ followed by small trucks with 22.3%, trucks 13.8%, minibuses 4.4%, motorcycles 3.9% and buses 3.7%.

While total number of vehicles increased by 5.4%, total vehicle-km increased by 8.3% compared with the previous year

While total number of road motor vehicles increased by 5.4%, total vehicle-km increased by 8.3% in 2017 compared with the previous year in Turkey. Number of passenger cars increased by 6.3%, minibuses 3.2%, buses 0.7%, small trucks 5.8%, trucks 1.6% and motorcycles 3.3%, whereas for the same motor vehicles vehicle-km increased by 6.3%, 10.1%, 13.5%, 10.6%, 11.4% and 4.7% respectively.

Passenger cars travelled 13 thousand 107 kilometer on average

In terms of average distance travelled in year 2017, buses travelled 50 thousand 141 kilometers followed by trucks 50 thousand 114, minibuses 28 thousand 172, small trucks 18 thousand 659, passenger cars 13 thousand 107 and motorcycles 3 thousand 817 kilometers respectively.

EXPLANATIONS

(1) It covers passenger cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks (tankers and road tractors are also included) and motorcycles. Special purpose vehicles and tractors are out of coverage.

(2) It is calculated by using administrative records compiled from odometers of passenger cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks and motorcycles visiting vehicle inspection stations. It covers distance travelled on both national and international roads by road motor vehicles registered to the traffic in Turkey.
