Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by Enterprises, 2019, in Turkey
94.9% of enterprises used the Internet
According to the survey results, 94.9% of enterprises with at least 10 persons employed used the Internet in 2019. This ratio was 95.3% in 2018. By considering the size group, proportion of the Internet access was 99.7% for enterprises with 250 or more employees, while this proportion was 98.7% for enterprises with 50-249 employees and 94.1% enterprises with 10-49 employees in 2019. Proportion of the enterprises using computer was 96.7% in 2019 while it was 97% in 2018.
Fixed broadband access was 93.3%
In 2019, 93.3% of enterprises used fixed broadband connection to access the Internet. According to the maximum contracted download speed, 16.6% of enterprises used Internet connection with below 10 Mbit/s, 62.4% of enterprises used with 10-99 Mbit/s and 21% of enterprises used with at least 100 Mbit/s.
66.6% of enterprises had their own website
In 2019, 66.6% of enterprises had website (including social media account) while this ratio was 66.1% in 2018. While the highest website ownership ratio was 90.4% in enterprises with 250 or more employees, this ratio was 78.2% and 63.9% in enterprises with 50-249 and with 10-49 persons employees respectively.
One out of two enterprises used social media
According to the survey results, 49.6% of enterprises with at least 10 persons employed used social media such as social networks, enterprise’s blog or microblogs, multimedia content sharing websites, wiki based knowledge sharing tools in 2019. This rate was 45.7% in 2017. Social networks were the most common type of social media used by enterprises by 94.6%.
Computer usage, Internet access and web page ownership in enterprises, 2011-2019
11.2% of enterprises made e-sales
In 2018, the rate of e-sales of enterprises increased by 1.4 points compared to 2017 and became 11.2%. E-sales concern the receipt of orders by methods specifically designed for the purpose of receiving orders, either via electronic data interchange (EDI) or through websites or apps (web sales). This percentage was 24.4% in enterprises with 250 or more employees, while 12.9% in enterprises with 50-249 employees, 10.5% in enterprises with 10-49 persons employees.
Enterprises preferred their own website or mobile app
While 70.7% of the enterprises receiving via websites or mobile applications used their own websites or mobile applications, 62.3% of them sold through other online stores and market places.
13.7% of enterprises employed ICT specialist
In 2019, 13.7% of enterprises employed ICT specialist whose main job is to develop, operate or maintain ICT systems or applications. This ratio was 11.6% in 2018.
The ratio was 10.1% for enterprises with 10-49 employees, 26.3% for 50-249 employees and 64.8% for enterprises with 250 or more employees in 2019.Almost half of the enterprises reported hard to fill vacancies
During 2018, 5.7% of enterprises recruited or tried to recruit ICT specialists. This ratio was 5.2% in 2017. 47.3% of them encountered difficulties to fill vacancies for ICT specialists for the reasons such as lack or too low number of applicants, required skills not available or not entirely suitable, lack of work experience in the field, high salary request. This ratio was 37.9% in 2017.
Enterprise Resource Planning software applications usage increased
The percentage of enterprises that used Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software applications reached 20.5% in 2019 that is an increase of 6.6 points compared with 2017. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) was used by 18.5% of the enterprises. By considering the size group, ERP and CRM applications were used by 68.3% and 42.8% of enterprises with 250 or more employees respectively. These rates were 16.3% and 16.5% in enterprises with 10-49 employees and 37.2% and 26.2% in enterprises with 50-249 employees.
