UK Inflation Rate Remains at 2.3%

UK inflation held steady last month, as rising prices for food and clothing were offset by lower air fares.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said inflation as measured by the Consumer Prices Index remained at 2.3%.

However, the ONS data showed food prices in March were 1.2% higher than last year, the biggest annual rise in three years.

Although the inflation rate remained unchanged from February, it remains above the Bank of England’s target of 2%.

UK economy becomes the most growing second economy after Germany!

In line with the data of the Office for National Statistics, UK economy grew 1,8% in the fourth quarter.

The main factor to boost the economy is consumer spending; on the other hand, business investments have been declined.

U.K. Annual Inflation Hits Highest Level Since 2013

Consumer price inflation (CPI) in the U.K. hitting its highest level since September 2013, official data showed. In a report, the U.K. Office for National Statistics said the rate of consumer price inflation rose from the year before by a seasonally adjusted 2.3% last month, above forecasts for a gain of 2.1% and compared to the 1.8% increase seen in January. Month-over-month, consumer price inflation rose by 0.7% in February, compared to the prior month’s 0.5% decline and forecasts for a 0.5% gain. Core CPI, which excludes food, energy, alcohol, and tobacco costs rose at a seasonally adjusted rate of 2.0% last month, higher than forecasts for a gain of 1.8% and compared to the 1.6% advance in January.
