Material index increased by 2.18% and labour index increased by 0.59% compared with the previous month. Building construction cost index increased monthly by 1.67%

Building construction cost index increased by 1.67% compared with previous month and increased by 25.45% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.15% and labour index increased by 0.65% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 25.02% and labour index increased by 26.39% compared with the previous year.

Construction cost index for civil engineering increased monthly by 1.75%

Construction cost index for civil engineering increased 1.75% compared with previous month and increased by 23.01% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.30% and labour index increased by 0.38% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 22.10% and labour index increased by 25.38% compared with the previous year.

In the same month, compared to May 2018, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) decreased by 1.5%, 6%, 7.6% and 5.7%, respectively.

The overall export volume index increased by 18.4%

The overall export volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year increased by 18.4% in May. Compared with May 2018, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 3%, 8.2%, 115.2% and 17.8%, respectively.

In May, the overall import volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year decreased by 16%. While the index for food, beverages and tobacco, and crude materials (except fuels) increased by 10.4% and 5.8%, respectively, the index for fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) decreased by 2.2% and 17.7%, respectively.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index increased by 8.5%

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index which was 161.7 in April 2019, increased by 8.5%, to 175.4 in May 2019. The calendar adjusted export volume index which was 149.8 in May 2018, increased by 18.4%, to 177.4 in May 2019.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index decreased by 2.6%

The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index which was 120.2 in April 2019, decreased by 2.6%, to 117.1 in May 2019. The calendar adjusted import volume index which was 147 in May 2018, decreased by 16.5%, to 122.7 in May 2019.

Terms of trade was 101.3 in May 2019

Terms of trade is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index, then multiplying the result by 100. While terms of trade was 102.9 in May 2018, it decreased by 1.6 points to 101.3 in May 2019.

At the end of May, the total number of road motor vehicles registered reached 23 039 551The total number of road motor vehicles registered to the traffic reached 23 million 39 thousand 551 by the end of May. Within the total, cars represented 54.2%, followed by small trucks 16.4%, motorcycles 14.2%, tractors 8.2%, trucks 3.7%, minibuses 2.1%, buses 0.9% and special purpose vehicles 0.3%.

In May, 57 757 road motor vehicle registrations were recorded

Within 57 thousand 757 vehicle registrations in May, cars accounted for 47%, followed by motorcycles 33.9%, small trucks 11.3% and tractors 4.6%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 3.2% of new registrations.

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 6.3% compared with the previous month. Minibuses, buses, small trucks, motorcycles and tractors increased by 26.3%, 8%, 6.1%, 41.9% and 8.2% respectively. Cars, trucks and special purpose vehicles decreased by 9.3%, 24.2% and 5.2%.

In May, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 42.5% compared with the same month of the previous year. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks, motorcycles and tractors decreased by 51.3%, 66.8%, 38%, 55.9%, 68.8%, 4.4% and 45.5% respectively. Special purpose vehicles increased by 165.4%.

In the period of January-May, the total number of road motor vehicles in traffic increased by 173 630

While 97 thousand 668 road motor vehicles were withdrawn, 271 thousand 298 road motor vehicles were added in January-May period. Hence, the total number of road motor vehicles registered increased by 173 thousand 630.

721 196 road motor vehicles handed over in May

Among 721 thousand 196 vehicles handed over⁽¹⁾, cars accounted for 71.9% followed by small trucks 15.5%, motorcycles 5.7% and tractors 2.5%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 4.4% of the handed over motor vehicles in May.

The ratio of cars registered using LPG was 37.7%

At the end of May, among 12 million 482 thousand 475 registered cars, the share of LPG-fuelled cars was 37.7% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 37.3% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.6%. The share of electric or hybrid cars is 0.1% and the cars with unknown⁽²⁾ fuel type was 0.3%.

In May, 27 136 cars were registered to the traffic

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the 27 thousand 136 new registered cars in May, Fiat 13.9%, Renault recorded 13.2%, Toyota 9.9%, Volkswagen 7.9%, Hyundai 6.6%, Peugeot 6.6%, Honda 6.5%, Mercedes-Benz 4.5%, Dacia 3.8%, Opel 3.4% and the other trademarks 23.9% of the total.

Most frequent engine size was 1501-1600 for registered cars

Within 152 thousand 646 cars registered to traffic in January-May period, 38.1% of them had engine size 1501-1600, 27.3% had 1401-1500, 15.8% had 1301-1400, 11.7% had 1300 or less, 5.9% had 1601-2000, 1.2% had 2001 and above engine size.

Most frequent colour was white for registered cars

Within 152 thousand 646 cars registered to traffic in January-May period, 52.8% of them were white, 23.9% were grey, 7.2% were black, 5.6% were red and 10.5% were in other colours.

Exports increased by 12.1% while imports decreased by 19.3%According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Trade, in May 2019; exports were 15 billion 981 million dollars with a 12.1%  increase and imports were 17 billion 819 million dollars  with a 19.3% decrease  compared with May 2018.

Foreign trade deficit decreased by 76.5% 

In May 2019 foreign trade deficit was 1 billion 838 million dollars with a 76.5% decrease compared with May 2018. In May 2019, exports coverage imports was 89.7% while it was 64.6% in May 2018.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 8.1%

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports  increased by 8.1% while imports decreased by 4.1%  compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports  increased by 12% while imports decreased by 19.7% compared with May 2018.

The main partner for exports was Germany

In May 2019, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 billion 467 million dollars. The country was followed by Italy with 857 million dollars, the United Kingdom with 853 million dollars and USA with 784 million dollars. The top country for Turkey’s imports was Russia with 1 billion 890 million dollars. The  country  was  followed by  China  with 1 billion 623 million dollars,  Germany with 1 billion 619 million dollars and USA with 1 billion 3 million dollars.

Ratio of exports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 3.4%

Foreign trade by technology intensity covers the manufacturing industries’ products in classification of  ISIC Rev.3. According to the ISIC Rev.3, the ratio of manufacturing industries products in total exports was 94.8% in May. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries was 3.4%. The ratio of manufacturing industries’ products in total imports was 75.2%. The ratio of high-technology products in  manufacturing industries’ products was 15% in May 2019.

According to general trade system exports were 16 billion 803 million dollars 

According to the general trade system in May 2019, exports were 16 billion 803 million dollars with a 11.4% increase and imports were 18 billion 541 million dollars  with a 20.1% decrease compared with May 2018. Exports coverage imports was 90.6% in May 2019.

EXPLANATIONS
Foreign trade statistics are calculated by using two different trading systems, namely the special trade system and the general trade system. In the special trade system, data of customs warehouses and free zones are not included in statistics. However, goods entering in or leaving from the free circulation area of a country are covered. In the special trade system, free zones and customs warehouses are not included in the statistical region of that country. For this reason, goods sent from free zones and warehouses to the country and goods sent from the country to free zones and customs warehouses are covered in the calculations but trade between these regions and third countries aren’t covered in the calculations. In the general trade system, goods entering in or leaving from economic area of the country are covered in statistics. In the general trade system, goods entering in free zones, customs warehouses and free circulation area which constitute the economic area of the country or leaving from these areas are covered in the calculations.

Turkish Statistical Institute will continue to publish detailed foreign trade statistics according to the special trade system. In addition, annual and monthly total foreign trade statistics by the general trade system will be given in a bulletin table and in a statistical table including 2013-2019 period.

Non-domestic producer price index increased by 4.19%Non-domestic producer price index (ND-PPI), which measures the change in the price of goods manufactured in the country and exported in a reference period, increased by 4.19% on monthly basis, increased by 13.09% on December of the previous year basis, increased by 30.66% on same month of the previous year basis and increased by 40.39% on the twelve months moving averages basis in May 2019.

ND-PPI monthly increased by 4.95% in the index for mining and stone quarrying and increased by 4.17% in the index for manufacturing.

The highest monthly increase was in other mining and quarrying products

The highest rates of monthly increase by sub divisions of industry were indices for other mining and quarrying products by 6.50%, for chemicals and chemical products by 6.13%, and for other transport equipment 5.58%.

The highest monthly increase in main industrial groupings was in intermadiate goods

According to main industrial groupings classification, the highest rate of monthly increases and the highest rate of annual increases were in intermediate goods in May 2019.

In May 2019, 82 252 houses were sold in TurkeyIn Turkey, house sales decreased by 31.3% in May 2019 compared to the same month of the previous year and hence, became 82 252. For the house sales of May 2019, İstanbul had the highest share of house sales with 19.3% and 15 895 sold house. The followers of İstanbul were Ankara with 8 240 house sales and Antalya 5 091 house sales with the share of 10% and 6.2% respectively. The least house sold provinces were Ardahan with 4 house sales, Hakkari with 10 house sales, Bayburt with 26 house sales.

In May 2019, 5 231 ownership of the houses changed by mortgage sales

The mortgaged house sales throughout Turkey became 5 231 by decreasing 85.8% compared to the same month of the previous year. House sales with mortgage had a 6.4% share of all house sales in Turkey. Most of house sales with mortgage was in İstanbul with 1 163 sales. İstanbul was the first province in Turkey ranking that has most house sales with mortgage share with 22.2%. Mortgaged house sales had the highest share in Eskişehir with 19% of all house sales.

Ownership of 77 021 houses changed by other sales

Other house sales in Turkey became 77 021 by decreasing 7% compared to the same month of the previous year. In the other sales, İstanbul was the first province with 14 732 sales and 19.1% share. Other house sales had 92.7% share of all house sales in İstanbul. Ankara was the second province with   7 658 sales. Ankara was followed by Antalya with 4 829 sales. The least other house sales was realized in  Ardahan with 4 house sales.

In house sales, 33 765 of houses were sold for the first time

First house sales in Turkey became 33 765 by decreasing 39.2% compared to the same month of the previous year. First house sales had 41.1% share of all house sales in Turkey. The most first house sales was in İstanbul with 6 873 sales. İstanbul was the first province in Turkey ranking that had most first house sales share with 20.4%. The followers of İstanbul  were Ankara with  3 421  house  sales and  Antalya with  2 186 house sales.

Ownership of 48 487 houses changed by second hand sales

Second hand house sales in Turkey became 48 487 by decreasing 24.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. In the second hand sales, İstanbul was the first province again with 9 022 sales and 18.6% share. Share of the second hand sales was 56.8% in İstanbul in total house sales. Ankara was the second province with 4 819 sales and Ankara was followed by Antalya with 2 905 sales.

In May 2019, 3 925 houses were sold to foreigners

In house sales to foreigners became 3 925 by increasing 62.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. İstanbul was the first province with 1 734 sales in May 2019. The followers of İstanbul were Antalya with 850 house sales, Ankara with 216 house sales, Bursa with 187 house sales and Yalova with 136 house sales.

Most house sales were made to Iraq citizens according to country nationalities

Iraq citizens bought 594 houses from Turkey in May. The followers of Iraq were Iran with 509 house sales, Russia with 285 house sales, Afghanistan with 183 house sales and Saudi Arabia with 157 house sales.

Agriculture PPI decreased by 0.95% in MayProducer price index of agricultural products (Agriculture – PPI), in May 2019, decreased by 0.95% compared with the previous month, increased by 13.34% compared with December of the previous year, increased by 30.23% compared with the same month of the previous year and increased by 19.93% compared with twelve months averages.

Compared to the previous month; forestry products increased by 0.09%, however, agriculture and hunting products decreased by 0.78% and  fishing decreased by 7.79%.

The highest monthly increase was in perennial crops

Regarding monthly changes by main groups; perennial crops increased by 5.96% and live animals and animal products increased by 0.61%, however,  non-perennial crops decreased by 4.52%.

The vegetables from sub-agriculture groups decreased by 9.92%

From sub-agriculture groups; there were increases for other tree and bush fruits and nuts  by 7.57%,  for cereals (except rice), leguminous crops and oil seeds by 4.69%, for sheep and goats, live; raw milk and shorn wool from sheep and goats by 1.27%, however, there were decreases for fibre plants by 8.04% and for poultry, live and eggs by 6.06%.

In May 2019, 82 items were included in the Agriculture PPI; while 6 new item was included this month, prices of 37 items increased, prices of 27 items decreased and prices of 12 items remained unchanged with respect to previous month.
