Swiss producer inflation has been at its lowest level since 2021

The Producer and Import Price Index increased in April 2023 by 0.2% compared with the previous month, reaching 109.5 points (December 2020 = 100). Machinery in particular was more expensive. Petroleum products, in contrast, became cheaper. Compared with April 2022, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products rose by 1.0%. These are the results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In particular, higher prices for machinery were responsible for the increase in the producer price index compared with the previous month. Electrical equipment, watches, metal products as well as instruments and appliances for measuring and testing also became more expensive. In contrast, prices for petroleum products, basic metals, semi-finished metal products and gas declined.

The import price index also registered higher prices compared with March 2023, particularly for machinery. Rising prices were also observed for electrical equipment, instruments and appliances for measuring and testing, petroleum and natural gas, metal products, pharmaceutical preparations, furniture and medical and dental instruments and supplies. Petroleum products, basic metals, semi-finished metal products as well as computers and peripheral equipment, however, became cheaper.

Economic confidence index realized as 97.1

Economic confidence index which was 94.3 in September increased by 3.0% in October to 97.1.

Consumer confidence index increased by 5.3% and became 76.2, real sector (manufacturing industry) confidence index increased by 1.8% and became 102.0, services confidence index increased by 0.9% and became 119.3, retail trade confidence index increased by 3.0% and became 119.4, construction confidence index increased by 2.8% and became 90.5 in October compared to the previous month.

EXPLANATIONS

Economic confidence index is a composite index that encapsulates consumers’ and producers’ evaluations, expectations and tendencies about general economic situation. The index is combined by means of a weighted aggregation of sub-indices of seasonally adjusted consumer confidence, real sector, services, retail trade and construction confidence indices.

In the calculation of economic confidence index, each sectoral weights are not directly applied to the five confidence indices themselves but to their normalised individual sub-indices series as equally-distributed in each sector. Within this scope, totally 20 sub-indices of confidence indices for consumer, real sector, services, retail trade and construction are used in the calculation.

Sub-indices used in the calculation of economic confidence index are calculated with data collected in the first two weeks of each month.

It indicates an optimistic outlook about the general economic situation when economic confidence index is above 100, whereas it indicates a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.,

Consumer confidence index realized as 76.2

Seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index calculated from the results of the consumer tendency survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute and Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye increased by 5.3% in October compared to the previous month. The index became 76.2 in October while it was 72.4 in September.

EXPLANATIONS
In monthly consumer tendency survey, consumers’ assessments and expectations on financial standing and general economic situation, also their expenditure and saving tendencies are measured.

The consumer confidence index calculated from the survey results is evaluated within the range of 0-200. It indicates an optimistic outlook when the index is above 100, but it indicates a pessimistic outlook when it is below 100.

The increase in probability of borrowing money index, which is the one of the indices concerning consumer tendency indicates an optimistic outlook while decrease in index indicates a pessimistic outlook. Similarly, increase in assessment and expectation in consumer prices change rate indices indicate a decrease in assessment/ expectation in consumer prices and vice versa. The increase in number of people unemployed expectation index indicates decrease of number of people unemployed expectation, whereas decrease indicates increase of number of people unemployed expectation.

Agricultural input price index (Agricultural-IPI) increased by 135.06% annually and 1.64% monthly

Agriculture-IPI (2015=100) increased by 1.64% compared to previous month, increased by 86.45% compared to December of the previous year, increased by 135.06% compared to same month of the previous year and increased by 88.48% compared to twelve months moving averages, in August 2022.

Monthly changes by main groups, goods and services currently consumed in agricultural index increased by 1.25% and goods and services contributing to agricultural investment index increased by 4.81%. The goods and services contributing to agricultural investment index increased by 90.40% and the goods and services currently consumed in agricultural index increased by 142.28% compared to same month of the previous year.

Compared to general Agricultural-IPI, lower annual change observed in 7 subgroups while 4 subgroups were higher

Subgroups that indicated low increase were veterinary expenses with 36.20% and other goods and services with 62.97%. On the other hand, fertilizer and soil improvers with 234.48% and energy; lubricants with 184.77% were the subgroups that high annual increase realized.

Compared to general Agricultural-IPI, lower monthly change observed in 3 subgroups while 8 subgroups were higher

Plant protection and pesticides with 1.00% and animal feedingstuffs with 1.59% were the subgroups that indicated low monthly increase. On the other hand, seeds and planting stock with 9.62% and materials with 6.47% were the subgroups that high monthly increase realized. Energy; lubricants with 5.01% was the only subgroup that monthly decrease observed.

Consumer confidence index realized as 58.3Seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index calculated from the results of the consumer tendency survey carried out in cooperation with the Turkish Statistical Institute and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey increased by 3.1% compared to the previous month. The index became 58.3 in August while it was 56.5 in July.

Financial situation expectation index realized as 77.8

The financial situation expectation of household index in the next 12 months period which was 77 in July increased by 1.1% and became 77.8 in August.

General economic situation expectation index became 74.3

The general economic situation expectation index (next 12 months period) which was 73.4 in July increased by 1.2% and became 74.3 in August.

Number of people unemployed expectation index became 58.3

The number of people unemployed expectation index (next 12 months period) which was 55.6 in July increased by 4.8% and became 58.3 in August.

Probability of saving index realized as 22.7

The probability of saving index (next 12 months period) which was 20 in July increased by 13.1% and became 22.7 in August.

Agriculture- PPI decreased by 1.06% in JulyProducer price index of agricultural products (Agriculture – PPI), in July 2019, decreased by 1.06% compared with the previous month, increased by 8.81% compared with December of the previous year, increased by 22.83% compared with the same month of the previous year and increased by 22.20% compared with twelve months averages.

Compared to the previous month; agriculture and hunting products decreased by 1.22%, fishing decreased by 0.90% and forestry products increased by 6.60%

The highest monthly decrease was in perennial crops

Regarding monthly changes by main groups; perennial crops decreased by 4.14%, non-perennial crops decreased by 1.72% and live animals and animal products increased by 1.26%.

The vegetables from sub-agriculture groups decreased by 6.01%

From sub-agriculture groups; there were increases for cereals (except rice), leguminous crops and oil seeds by 2.86%, for sheep and goats, live; raw milk and shorn wool from sheep and goats by 1.95%, and for oleaginous fruits by 0.90% and however, there was a decrease for live poultry and eggs by 0.51%.

In July 2019, 87 items were included in the Agriculture-PPI; while 5 new item was included this month, prices of 43 items increased, prices of 33 items decreased and prices of 6 items remained unchanged with respect to previous month.

Building construction cost index increased by 1.67% compared with previous month and increased by 25.45% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.15% and labour index increased by 0.65% compared with the previous month. Construction cost index for civil engineering increased 1.75% compared with previous month and increased by 23.01% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.30% and labour index increased by 0.38% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 22.10% and labour index increased by 25.38% compared with the previous year.

Non-domestic producer price index decreased by 3.24%Non-domestic producer price index (ND-PPI), which measures the change in the price of goods manufactured in the country and exported in a reference period, decreased by 3.24% on monthly basis, increased by 9.43% on December of the previous year basis, increased by 22.23% on same month of the previous year basis and increased by 38.97% on the twelve months moving averages basis in June 2019.

ND-PPI monthly decreased by 4.08% in the index for mining and stone quarrying and decreased by 3.22% in the index for manufacturing.

The highest monthly decrease was in coke and refined petroleum products

The highest rates of monthly decrease by sub divisions of industry were indices for coke and refined petroleum products by 12.22%, for metal ores by 4.91%, and for chemicals and chemical products by 4.52%. On the other hand, the rate of monthly increase in ND-PPI by sub divisions of industry was the index for computer, electronic and optical products by 3.26%.

The highest monthly decrease in main industrial groupings was in energy goods

According to main industrial groupings classification, the highest rate of monthly decreases was in energy goods by 12.22% in June 2019.

Agriculture PPI decreased by 2.97% in JuneProducer price index of agricultural products (Agriculture – PPI), in June 2019, decreased by 2.97% compared with the previous month, increased by 9.98% compared with December of the previous year, increased by 26.26% compared with the same month of the previous year and increased by 21.33% compared with twelve months averages.

Compared to the previous month; agriculture and hunting products decreased by 3.02%, forestry products decreased by 4.04% and fishing decreased by 0.42%.

The highest monthly decrease was in non-perennial crops

Regarding monthly changes by main groups; non-perennial crops decreased by 6.83%, perennial crops decreased by 4.73% and live animals and animal products increased by 3.76%.

The vegetables from sub-agriculture groups decreased by 15.86%

From sub-agriculture groups; there were increases for dairy cattle, live and raw milk from dairy cattle
by 5.71%, for cereals (except rice), leguminous crops and oil seeds by 4.35% and for other farmed animals and animal products by 1.14% and however, there were decreases for live poultry and eggs by 8.02%, for pome fruits and stone fruits by 7.33% and for other tree and bush fruits and nuts by 3.33%.

In June 2019, 82 items were included in the Agriculture PPI; while 1 new item was included this month, prices of 34 items increased, prices of 39 items decreased and prices of 8 items remained unchanged with respect to previous month.

Consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.03%A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 0.03%, on December of the previous year by 5.01%, on same month of the previous year by 15.72% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 19.88% in June 2019.

The highest monthly increase was 2.65% in hotels, cafes and restaurants

In June 2019, the indices rose for miscellaneous goods and services 1.86%, for education 1.50%, for health and furnishing and household equipment 0.57%.

The highest monthly decrease was 1.65% in food and non-alcoholic beverages

In June 2019, the indices declined for clothing and footwear 1.57% and for recreation and culture 0.04%.

The highest annual increase was 26.88% in miscellaneous goods and services

Furnishing and household equipment with 22.51%, hotels, cafes and restaurants with 20.84%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 19.24% and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 19.20% were the other main groups where high annual increases realized.

The indicator for CPI having specified coverage (B) increased by 1.19%

A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 1.19%, on December of the previous year by 4.59%, on same month of the previous year by 16.28% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 18.89% in June 2019.

In June 2019 within average prices of 418 items in the index, average prices of 51 items remained unchanged while average prices of 264 items increased and average prices of 103 items decreased.
