Amazon growth slows down while profit increases

U.S based e-commerce giant Amazon announced on Thursday that sales growth increased by 20% compared to the same period the year before, making the annual profit $232.9 billion.

The company, however, couldn’t reach the growth of the previous year, which was 38%.

Amazon also forecasts lower sales than expected for the first quarter of 2019, between $56 to $60 billion dollars.

Russia increases visa price for Turkey

Russia has increased the visa price for Turkish citizens, shocking the country.

Turkish citizens were expecting to be exempt from visa for their travels to Russia.

However, Russia increased the visa price from 20 dollars to 80 dollars.

European Union member countries, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, China, Switzerland, and Japan are not affected by the new visa rule.

Negotiations between the European Union and the European Parliament on visa rules have come to an end.

The EU and Parliament have agreed on increasing the visa price from 60 euros to 80 euros.

The decision will affect people from over 100 countries.

Researchers, teenagers younger than 18 and children younger than 6 will be exempt from the price.

Travelers will have to apply for visa 6 months before their visit.

The decision will take effect after the official approval of the European Parliament and the European Council.

How do we determine the date of acquisition of stock certificates resulting from capital increases?

For the taxation of income resulting from the disposal of stock certificates, the date of acquisition of the stock certificates that are obtained through adding the capital and profit reserves to the capital will be based on the date of acquisition of the previous stock certificates.

E.g. Mr. (A) bought 1000 stock certificates of (B) Incorporated Company on 03.02.1999. (B) increased his capital by 50% to be fully covered from the capital reserves on 09.03.1999. Mr. (A) bought 500 stock certificates after this transaction. 03.02.1999 will be the basis of the date of acquisition of these 500 stock certificates.

When companies aim to increase the capital, the partners take the stock certificates that represent the increased capital by means of exercising their rights of priority. In the case where the partners sell the stock certificates that represent the capital increase by means of limiting their rights of priority, it will be deemed that a new purchase transaction took place.
