Unemployment rate realized as 14.7%The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 1 million 376 thousand to 4 million 730 thousand persons in the period of February 2019 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year. The unemployment rate occurred as 14.7% with 4.1 percentage point increase. In the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 16.9% with 4.4 percentage point increase. While youth unemployment rate including persons aged 15-24 was 26.1% with 7.1 percentage point increase, the unemployment rate for persons aged 15-64 occurred as 15.0% with 4.1 percentage point increase.

Employment rate realized as 44.8%

The number of employed persons decreased by 811 thousand to 27 million 355 thousand persons in the period of February 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as 44.8% with 1.8 percentage point decrease.

The number of agricultural employment decreased by 296 thousand persons and the number of non-agricultural employment decreased by 514 thousand persons in this period. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.1% was employed in agriculture, 19.7% was in industry, 5.4% was in construction and 57.7% was in services. Employment in agriculture decreased by 0.6 percentage point, industry decreased by 0.3 percentage point and construction decreased by 1.6 percentage point while the share of services increased by 2.4 percentage point compared with the same period of the previous year.

Labour force participation rate realized as 52.5%

The number of persons in the labour force realized 32 million 84 thousand persons with 564 thousand persons increase in the period of February 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labour force participation rate (LFPR) was 52.5% with 0.3 percentage point increase. LFPR for male was 71.4% with 0.1 percentage point decrease and the rate for female was 34.0% with 0.7 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.

The rate of unregistered employment realized as 33.5%

The ratio of persons working without any social security relating to the main job occurred 33.5% with 1.3 percentage point increase in the period of February 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. In the non-agricultural sector, the rate of unregistered employment realized as 22.8% with 1.1 percentage point increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

Public sector employment increased as 21.6%

According to data gathered by Presidency of Strategy and Budget, total public sector employment realized as 4 million 517 thousand persons with 21.6% percentage point increase in the firsth quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase was mainly due to the fact that subcontractors, who had not previously been involved in public employment, were employed as public employees (permanent workers).

Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 46.0% and unemployment rate realized as 13.6%

Seasonally adjusted employed persons increased by 68 thousand persons and occured 28 million 85 thousand persons compared with the previous period. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred as 46.0% with 0.1 percentage point increase.

The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons increased by 113 thousand to 4 million 417 thousand persons in the period of February 2019 compared with the previous period. The unemployment rate was 13.6% with 0.3 percentage point increase.

Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate was 53.2% with 0.2 percentage point increase compared with the previous period. According to the number of employment by sector, employment in agriculture decreased by 23 thousand persons, industry decreased by 4 thousand persons and construction decreased by 14 thousand persons while services increased by 108 thousand persons.

Milk collected by integrated dairies was 751 thousand 17 tonnesThe amount of collected cow’s milk in February decreased by 7.8% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

Drinking milk production by integrated dairies became 128 thousand 986 tonnes in February and decreased by 16.5% when compared to the same month of the previous year. Cheese production from cow’s milk was 54 thousand 757 tonnes and decreased by 2.8% when compared to the same month of the previous year. Cheese production from sheep, goat, buffalo and mixed milk was 743 tonnes decreased by 67.5% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

Yoghurt production became 89 thousand 116 tonnes in February and decreased by 1.2% when compared to same month of the previous year. Drink made of yoghurt production became 53 thousand 527 tonnes and decreased by 1.8% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

In February the average fat rate of cow’s milk collected by integrated dairies was 3.5%, the average rate of protein was 3.2%.

The overall export unit value index decreased by 6.3%As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall export unit value index decreased by 6.3% in February. In the same month, compared to February 2018, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) decreased by 4%, 4.4%, 5.6% and 6.4%, respectively.

As compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year, the overall import unit value index decreased by 1.2% in February. While the index for fuels increased by 4.8%, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels) and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) decreased by 1.9%, 7.6% and 1.8%, respectively.

The overall export volume index increased by 10.3%

The overall export volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year increased by 10.3% in February. Compared with February 2018, while the index for crude materials (except fuels) decreased by 8.2%, the index for food, beverages and tobacco, fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) increased by 4.9%, 148.5% and 8.4%, respectively.

The overall import volume index decreased by 15.9%

In February, the overall import volume index compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year decreased by 15.9%. The index for food, beverages and tobacco, crude materials (except fuels), fuels and manufactured goods (except food, beverages and tobacco) decreased by 18.3%, 31.5%, 2% and 16.9%, respectively.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted export volume index which was 162.8 in January 2019, decreased by 1.1%, to 160.9 in February 2019. The calendar adjusted export volume index which was 139.2 in February 2018, increased by 10.3%, to 153.6 in February 2019.

The calendar and seasonally adjusted import volume index which was 118.5 in January 2019, increased by 2.1%, to 121 in February 2019. The calendar adjusted import volume index which was 132.6 in February 2018, decreased by 16%, to 111.4 in February 2019.

Terms of trade was 101.7 in February 2019

Terms of trade is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index, then multiplying the result by 100. While terms of trade was 107.1 in February 2018, it decreased by 5.4 points to 101.7 in February 2019.

At the end of February, the total number of road motor vehicles registered reached 22 940 636The total number of road motor vehicles registered to the traffic reached 22 million 940 thousand 636 by the end of February. Within the total, cars represented 54.3%, followed by small trucks 16.4%, motorcycles 14%, tractors 8.2%, trucks 3.7%, minibuses 2.1%, buses 1% and special purpose vehicles 0.3%.

In February, 34 025 road motor vehicle registrations were recorded

Within 34 thousand 25 vehicle registrations in February, cars accounted for 54.3%, followed by motorcycles 22.7%, small trucks 12.9% and tractors 4.6%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 5.5% of new registrations.

The number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 48.8% compared with the previous month

In February, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 48.8% compared with the previous month. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks and trucks decreased by 58.4%, 33.5%, 47.3%, 62.3% and 48.6% respectively. Motorcycles, special purpose vehicles and tractors increased by  30.1%, 97% and 5%.

In February, the number of road motor vehicle registrations decreased by 45.8% compared with the same month of the previous year. Cars, minibuses, buses, small trucks, trucks and tractors decreased by 49.8%, 29.3%, 45.2%, 57.3%, 64.9% and 64.8% respectively. Motorcycles and special purpose vehicles increased by 2% and 85.8%.

In the period of January-February, the total number of road motor vehicles in traffic increased by 74 715

While 25 thousand 796 road motor vehicles were withdrawn, 100 thousand 511 road motor vehicles were added in January-February period. Hence, the total number of road motor vehicles registered increased by 74 thousand 715.

535 037 road motor vehicles handed over in February

Among 535 thousand 37 vehicles handed over⁽¹⁾, cars accounted for 70.2% followed by small trucks 17.1%, motorcycles 3.9% and tractors 3.4%. Minibuses, buses, trucks and special purpose vehicles constituted 5.4% of the handed over motor vehicles in February.

The ratio of cars registered using LPG was 37.8%

At the end of February, among 12 million 445 thousand 592 registered cars, the share of LPG-fuelled cars was 37.8% followed by diesel-fuelled cars with 37% and gasoline-fuelled cars with 24.8%. The share of electric or hybrid cars is 0.05% and the cars with unknown⁽²⁾fuel type was 0.3%.

In February, 18 464 cars were registered to the traffic

In terms of the distribution of trademarks for the 18 thousand 464 new registered cars in February,  Renault recorded 15%, Fiat 14.9%, Volkswagen 11.6%, Hyundai 7.5%, Honda 6.4%, Toyota 5.3%, Peugeot 4.6%, Nissan 4.3%, Dacia 4%, Skoda 3.7% and the other trademarks 22.7% of the total.

Most frequent engine size was 1501-1600 for registered cars

Within 62 thousand 870 cars registered to traffic in January-February period, 40.1% of them had engine size 1501-1600, 27% had 1401-1500, 17.2% had 1301-1400, 10.3% had 1300 or less, 4.4% had 1601-2000, 0.9% had 2001 and above engine size.

Most frequent colour was white for registered cars

Within 62 thousand 870 cars registered to traffic in January-February period, 54.7% of them were white, 22.5% were grey, 7.5% were black, 5.4% were red and 10% were in other colours.
