Red Meat Production Statistics, Quarter II: April-June, 2019

Total red meat production was estimated as 255 455 tonnes in the 2nd quarter

While red meat production increased by 20.8% according to the previous quarter, it decreased by 4.1% when compared with the same quarter of last year. In total red meat production, the amount produced by slaughterhouses was 176 thousand 629 tonnes.

Cattle meat production was estimated as 223 thousand 693 tonnes

While cattle meat production increased by 16.9% according to the previous quarter, it decreased by 5.2% when compared with the same quarter of last year.

Sheep meat production was estimated as 30 thousand 600 tonnes

While sheep meat production increased 70.6% according to the previous quarter, it increased 11.9% when compared with the same quarter of last year.

Construction cost index increased monthly by 1.69%In May 2019, construction cost index (CCI) increased by 1.69% compared with previous month and increased by 24.86% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.18% and labour index increased by 0.59% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 24.30% and labour index increased by 26.17% compared with the previous year.

Building construction cost index increased monthly by 1.67%

Building construction cost index increased by 1.67% compared with previous month and increased by 25.45% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.15% and labour index increased by 0.65% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 25.02% and labour index increased by 26.39% compared with the previous year.

Construction cost index for civil engineering increased monthly by 1.75%

Construction cost index for civil engineering increased 1.75% compared with previous month and increased by 23.01% compared with the same month of the previous year. Material index increased by 2.30% and labour index increased by 0.38% compared with the previous month. Also material index increased by 22.10% and labour index increased by 25.38% compared with the previous year.

Non-Domestic Producer Price Index, June 2019

Non-domestic producer price index decreased by 3.24%Non-domestic producer price index (ND-PPI), which measures the change in the price of goods manufactured in the country and exported in a reference period, decreased by 3.24% on monthly basis, increased by 9.43% on December of the previous year basis, increased by 22.23% on same month of the previous year basis and increased by 38.97% on the twelve months moving averages basis in June 2019.

ND-PPI monthly decreased by 4.08% in the index for mining and stone quarrying and decreased by 3.22% in the index for manufacturing.

The highest monthly decrease was in coke and refined petroleum products

The highest rates of monthly decrease by sub divisions of industry were indices for coke and refined petroleum products by 12.22%, for metal ores by 4.91%, and for chemicals and chemical products by 4.52%. On the other hand, the rate of monthly increase in ND-PPI by sub divisions of industry was the index for computer, electronic and optical products by 3.26%.

The highest monthly decrease in main industrial groupings was in energy goods

According to main industrial groupings classification, the highest rate of monthly decreases was in energy goods by 12.22% in June 2019.

Central Government Budget Appropriations and Outlays on R&D, 2019

Central government budget outlays on R&D amounted to 13 billion 24 million TL in 2018

Central government budget outlays on Research and Development (R&D) activities amounted to 13 billion 24 million TL as in comparison with the previous year increased by 21.6% in 2018. According to this result, Central Government Budget expenditures on R&D accounted for 0.35% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 1.4% of the Central Government Budget expenditure in 2018.

According to provisional results based on initial budget appropriations, Turkey has allocated 15 billion 597 million TL on R&D for the budgetary year 2019.

Indirect R&D support was 4 billion 599 million TL for the year 2018

Total amount of indirect R&D support (R&D tax relieves) was 4 billion 599 million TL for the year 2018.

Most important socio-economic objective was General University Funds

The largest share of Central Government Budget appropriations on R&D was directed to the socio-economic objective ‘General advancement of knowledge: R&D financed from General University Funds (GUF)’ with 40.4% for the year 2019. This share was 34.4% for ‘Defense’, 6.8% for ‘Industrial production and technology’, 4.3% for ‘General advancement of knowledge: R&D financed from other sources than GUF’ and 4% for ‘Education’ respectively.

EXPLANATIONS

Measuring R&D activities financed by Government (Central Government) based on initial budget appropriations (provisional) and actual outlays (final) are important to identify Government support for R&D or priority of R&D support in Central Government Budget. This covers not only government-financed R&D performed in government establishments, but also government-financed R&D in the other three national sectors (business enterprise, private non-profit, higher education) as well as abroad (including international organisations).

Indirect R&D support covers tax incentives and exemptions based on the Law 193, 5520, 4691, 5746 and 3065. These figures were calculated by using data from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

Seasonal and calendar adjusted retail sales volume with constant prices increased by 0.3% in May 2019 compared with the previous month. In the same month non-food (except automotive fuel) sales increased by 0.5%, automotive fuel sales increased by 0.3%, food, drinks and tobacco sales decreased by 0.1%.

Calendar adjusted retail turnover with current prices increased by 15.6% in May 2019 compared with the same month of previous year. In the same month food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 20.8%, non-food (except automotive fuel) sales increased by 16.6%, automotive fuel sales increased by 5.8%.

Labour Force Statistics, April 2019

Unemployment rate realized as 13.0%The number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 1 million 116 thousand to 4 million 202 thousand persons in the period of April 2019 in Turkey compared with the same period of the previous year. The unemployment rate occurred as 13.0% with 3.4 percentage point increase. In the same period, non-agricultural unemployment rate occurred as 15.0% with 3.6 percentage point increase. While youth unemployment rate including persons aged 15-24 was 23.2% with 6.3 percentage point increase, the unemployment rate for persons aged 15-64 occurred as 13.3% with 3.5 percentage point increase.

Employment rate realized as 46.0%

The number of employed persons decreased by 810 thousand to 28 million 199 thousand persons in the period of April 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. The employment rate occurred as 46.0% with 1.9 percentage point decrease.

The number of agricultural employment decreased by 329 thousand persons and the number of non-agricultural employment decreased by 481 thousand persons in this period. According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.6% was employed in agriculture, 19.7% was in industry, 5.7% was in construction and 56.9% was in services. Employment in agriculture decreased by 0.7 percentage point and construction decreased by 1.7 percentage point while industry increased by 0.2 percentage point and services increased by 2.1 percentage point compared with the same period of the previous year.

Labour force participation rate realized as 52.9%

The number of persons in the labour force realized 32 million 401 thousand persons with 306 thousand persons increase in the period of April 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. Labour force participation rate (LFPR) was 52.9% with 0.1 percentage point decrease. LFPR for male was 71.8% with 0.6 percentage point decrease and the rate for female was 34.5% with 0.5 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.

The rate of unregistered employment realized as 34.2%

The ratio of persons working without any social security relating to the main job occurred 34.2% with 0.9 percentage point increase in the period of April 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year. In the non-agricultural sector, the rate of unregistered employment realized as 23.1% with 0.7 percentage point increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

Seasonally adjusted employment rate realized as 45.8% and unemployment rate realized as 13.8%

Seasonally adjusted employed persons decreased by 74 thousand persons and occured 28 million 40 thousand persons compared with the previous period. Seasonally adjusted employment rate occurred 45.8% with 0.2 percentage point decrease.

The number of seasonally adjusted unemployed persons increased by 7 thousand to 4 million 487 thousand persons in the period of April 2019 compared with the previous period. The unemployment rate was 13.8% with 0.1 percentage point increase.

Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate was 53.1% with 0.2 percentage point decrease compared with the previous period. According to the number of employment by sector, employment in agriculture decreased by 84 thousand persons, construction decreased by 32 thousand persons and services decreased by 30 thousand persons while industry increased by 71 thousand persons.

Agriculture PPI decreased by 2.97% in JuneProducer price index of agricultural products (Agriculture – PPI), in June 2019, decreased by 2.97% compared with the previous month, increased by 9.98% compared with December of the previous year, increased by 26.26% compared with the same month of the previous year and increased by 21.33% compared with twelve months averages.

Compared to the previous month; agriculture and hunting products decreased by 3.02%, forestry products decreased by 4.04% and fishing decreased by 0.42%.

The highest monthly decrease was in non-perennial crops

Regarding monthly changes by main groups; non-perennial crops decreased by 6.83%, perennial crops decreased by 4.73% and live animals and animal products increased by 3.76%.

The vegetables from sub-agriculture groups decreased by 15.86%

From sub-agriculture groups; there were increases for dairy cattle, live and raw milk from dairy cattle
by 5.71%, for cereals (except rice), leguminous crops and oil seeds by 4.35% and for other farmed animals and animal products by 1.14% and however, there were decreases for live poultry and eggs by 8.02%, for pome fruits and stone fruits by 7.33% and for other tree and bush fruits and nuts by 3.33%.

In June 2019, 82 items were included in the Agriculture PPI; while 1 new item was included this month, prices of 34 items increased, prices of 39 items decreased and prices of 8 items remained unchanged with respect to previous month.

Hen egg production was 1.6 billion units

Hen egg production decreased by 1.2% in May compared with the previous month, and increased by 1.2% compared with the same month of the previous year.

Number of slaughtered chicken was 109 million, number of slaughtered turkey was 458 thousand units

Number of the slaughtered chicken increased by 8.3% in May compared with the previous month, and decreased by 5.7% compared with the same month of the previous year. Number of the slaughtered turkey increased by 1.6% in May compared with the previous month, and decreased by 26% compared with the same month of the previous year.

Chicken meat production was 193 thousand 330 tonnes, turkey meat production realized as 4 thousand 656 tonnes

Chicken meat production increased by 8% in May compared with the previous month, and decreased by 3.3% compared with the same month of the previous year. Turkey meat production increased by 2.1% in May compared with the previous month, and decreased by 32.4% compared with the same month of the previous year.

Milk collected by integrated dairies was 910 thousand 757 tonnes

The amount of collected cow’s milk in May decreased by 0.6% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

Drinking milk production by integrated dairies became 142 thousand 166 tonnes in May and decreased by 0.6% when compared to the same month of the previous year. Cheese production from cow’s milk was 62 thousand 295 tonnes and decreased by 7.1% when compared to the same month of the previous year. Cheese production from sheep, goat, buffalo and mixed milk was 5 thousand 239 tonnes decreased by 5.9% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

Yoghurt production became 105 thousand 331 tonnes in May and increased by 3.2% when compared to same month of the previous year. Drink made of yoghurt production became 54 thousand 413 tonnes and decreased by 7.1% when compared to the same month of the previous year.

In May the average fat rate of cow’s milk collected by integrated dairies was 3.4%, the average rate of protein was 3.2%.

The Rates of Real Profits Created by Means of Financial Investment, June 2019

Maximum monthly real profit rate was realized in government domestic debt instruments (GDDI)Government domestic debt instruments (GDDI), yielded the highest monthly real profit with the rates of 8.15% and 8.22% according to domestic producer price index(D-PPI) and consumer price index (CPI), respectively.

According to D-PPI, the monthly real profit rate of stock exchange, gold (ingot) and deposit interest yielded real profit with the rates of 5.93%, 2.09% and 1.48%. However, the monthly real profit rate of Euro and US Dollar lost by 3.09% and 4.05% respectively. According to CPI, the monthly real profit rate of stock exchange, gold (ingot) and deposit interest yielded real profit with the rates of 6.00%, 2.15% and 1.54% respectively. However, the monthly real profit rate of investors of Euro and US Dollar lost by 3.03% and 3.99% respectively.

Gold (ingot) made the highest real profit with the rates of 5.22% according to D-PPI and 8.43% according to CPI, quarterly. In the same period, investors of stock exchange made the highest loss with the rates of 12.36% and 9.68% according to D-PPI and CPI.

Bi-annually, gold (ingot) made the highest real profit with the rates of 10.26% according to D-PPI, 13.49% according to CPI. In the same period, investors of stock exchange made the highest loss with the rates of 5.71% and 2.94% according to D-PPI and CPI, respectively.

Maximum annual real profit was created by gold (ingot) investors

Annually, gold (ingot) made the highest real profit with the rates of 7.19% according to D-PPI and 15.82% according to CPI. However in the same period, investors of stock exchange made the highest loss with the rates of 21.91% according to D-PPI and 15.62% according to CPI.
