Number of newspapers and magazines decreased by 2.6%The number of newspapers and magazines was 5 thousand 962 with a decrease by 2.6% in 2018 compared to 2017. The 58.7% of these publications were magazines.

Total annual circulation of newspapers/magazines decreased by 17.6%

Total annual circulation of newspapers/magazines decreased by 17.6% in 2018 compared to 2017. Total annual circulation of the newspapers/magazines published in our country was 1 billion 368 million 287 thousand 463 in 2018 and 94.2% of this was newspapers’ circulation.

The 91.3% of the newspapers published locally

The 91.3% of the newspapers published in 2018 were local, 6.9% was national and 1.8% was regional publications. For the magazines, 64.3% was national, 31.4% was local and 4.3% was regional. The 81.6% of the total annual newspaper circulation was national newspapers, 17.6% was local and 0.7% was regional newspapers. For magazines, 75.6% of the total annual magazine circulation was national magazines, 20.9% was local and 3.6% was regional magazines.

The 24% of the magazines published monthly

The 29.6% of the newspapers were published weekly, 28.2% of them were published two-six times a week and 16.2% of them were published monthly. The 24% of the magazines were published monthly, 22.4% of them were published quarterly and 15.9% of them were published biannually. The 87.1% of total annual newspaper circulation was daily newspapers, 8.3% was from the newspapers published two-six times a week and 2.3% was weekly newspapers. For magazines, 56.3% of the total annual magazine circulation was monthly magazines while 11.4% was quarterly, 10.2% was bimonthly and 8.3% was weekly magazines.

The 87.8% of the newspapers had political/news/actual content

The 87.8% of the newspapers had political/news/actual content while 2.2% of them had local administration content and 1.9% of them had sector-specific/professional content. The 17.5% of the magazines had sector-specific/professional content while 13.8% of them had academic and 8.5% of them had education/examination content.

The 10.4% of the newspapers gave supplements

The 10.4% of the newspapers and the 8.2% of the magazines published gave supplements.

Official announcement and advertising fees increased by 2.2%

According to the administrative data of Press Advertising Agency; the total official announcement and advertising fees increased by 2.2% in 2018 compared to 2017 and reached the amount of 454 million 398 thousand 951 TL.

Households allocated the highest share to housing and rent expenditures

According to the results of 2018 household budget survey; while the expenditures on housing and rent had the highest share in total consumption expenditures with a rate of 23.7%, the share of expenditures on food and non-alcoholic beverages was 20.3% in overall Turkey. The groups which had the lowest shares in total expenditures were health expenditures and educational services expenditures with the rates of 2.2% and 2.3% respectively.

The monthly average equivalised consumption expenditures was 1 854 TL in 2017 and 2 181 TL in 2018.

The share of food and non-alcoholic beverages in total expenditures had the highest increase

According to the results of the survey, the share of food and non-alcoholic beverages expenditures increased from 19.7% to 20.3% with an increase of 0.6 points compared to the previous year. The share of various good and services expenditures increased to 4.9% from 4.4%. The share of communication expenditures was 3.8% in 2018 while 3.4% in 2017. The share of expenditures on restaurant and hotels increased to 6.5% from 6.2%. The share of furniture and houses appliances increased to 6.5% from 6.3% and also the share of entertainment and culture expenditures increased to 2.9% from 2.7%.

On the other hand, the share of housing and rent expenditures in total expenditures decreased from 24.7% to 23.7% with a decrease of 1 points compared to the previous year. The share of alcoholic beverages, cigarette and tobacco expenditures decreased from 4.5% to 4%. The share of expenditures on transportation was 18.3% in 2018 while 18.7% in 2017. The share of clothing and footwear expenditures decreased to 4.8% from 5%.

The share of expenditures on health which was 2.2% and the share of educational services expenditures which was 2.3% remained unchanged from 2017 to 2018.

Share of food expenditures of low-income households was twice more than that of high-income households

When looking at the distribution of consumption expenditures by quintiles ordered by income in 2018, it was observed that the share of housing and rent expenditures was 31.4%, food and non-alcoholic beverages expenditures was 28.7%, transportation expenditures was 9.3% and furniture and houses appliances expenditures was 5.9% for households in the first quintile (the lowest quintile).

The share of transportation expenditures was 21.6%, housing and rent expenditures was 20.3%, food and non-alcoholic beverages expenditures 15.4% and restaurant and hotels expenditures was 7.8% for households in the fifth quintile (the highest quintile).

Expenditure patterns changed according to households’ main source of income

While households whose main source of income was wages and salaries allocated 22.4% share for housing and rent, 19.2% for transportation and 18.7% for food and non-alcoholic beverages, households whose main source of income was entrepreneurial income allocated 22.7% share for transportation, 19.7% for housing and rent and 19.5% for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Households whose main source of income was property income, interest and dividends allocated 28.1% share for housing and rent, 18.6% for transportation and 16.4% for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Households whose main source of income was pensions allocated 28.6% share for housing and rent, 25.5% for food and non-alcoholic beverages and 13.4% for transportation.

577 thousand 457 people immigrated to Turkey

In 2018, number of immigrants increased by 23.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 577 thousand 457 people. While 52.7% of this population were males, 47.3% were females. When immigrant population was examined by citizenship, 110 thousand 567 persons were Turkish Republic (TR) citizens and 466 thousand 890 persons were foreign nationals.

323 thousand 918 people emigrated from Turkey

Number of emigrants increased by 27.7% compared to the previous year and reached to 323 thousand 918 people in 2018. While 53.3% of this population were males, 46.7% were females. When emigrant population was examined by citizenship, 136 thousand 740 persons were TR citizens and 187 thousand 178 persons were foreign nationals.

The most immigrated population group was 25-29 age group

In 2018, it was seen that 11.9% of the immigrant population were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 20-24 age group with 11.5% and 30-34 age group with 10.3%, respectively. When the age distribution of emigrant population was analyzed, it was seen that 15.7% of them were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 20-24 and 30-34 age groups with 13.2%.

The province with the highest number of immigrants was İstanbul

When immigrant population in 2018 were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest immigrant population with 201 thousand 957 people. İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 71 thousand 337 people, Antalya with 36 thousand 674 people, Bursa with 22 thousand 660 people and İzmir with 14 thousand 671 people, respectively.

When the emigrants were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest emigrant population with 113 thousand 430 people. İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 28 thousand 410 people, Antalya with 18 thousand 408 people, Gümüşhane with 16 thousand 789 people and İzmir with 13 thousand 468 people, respectively.

23.6% of foreign immigrants were comprised of Iraqi citizens

Iraqi citizens took the first place in the foreign immigrant population in 2018 with 23.6%. This group was followed by citizens of Afghanistan with 9.6%, Syria with 8.4%, Turkmenistan with 7.5% and Iran with 6.8%, respectively.

Iraqi citizens once again took the first place in the foreign emigrant population with 20.6%. This group was followed by citizens of Azerbaijan with 7.4%, Uzbekistan with 7%, Turkmenistan with 5.4% and Iran with 4.9%, respectively.

EXPLANATIONS

In the calculation process of international migration statistics, definitions and concepts in the “Recommendations on Statistics of International Migration” prepared by United Nations and the reference metadata of international migration statistics disseminated by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) were taken into consideration.

Annual migration flow statistics were calculated based on Address Based Population Registration System, where the records of TR citizens and foreigners residing in Turkey are kept, and the database on TR citizens living abroad. Both these two systems are updated by the Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Civil Registration and Nationality.

In determination of the foreign population, residence permits obtained from the Directorate General of Migration Management were used together with work permits obtained from the Council of Higher Education and Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services.

Foreigners who are holding three months or longer residence/work permit or a document equivalent to residence permit or who are under international protection are covered within the scope of foreign population. In addition, individuals who renounced the TR citizenship with the authorization of TR and reside in Turkey are also covered in the foreign population. Foreigners who came from Syria and stay in Turkey with temporary protection status are not included in this study.

In 2018 there were 31 thousand 451 libraries in TurkeyIn 2018, there were 1 national library, 1 162 public libraries, 598 university libraries and 29 thousand 690 formal and non-formal education libraries in Turkey. The number of registered members of national library was 23 thousand 747, the number of registered members of public libraries was 2 million 840 thousand 504 and the number of registered members of university libraries was 3 million 912 thousand 306 in 2018.

The number of books in National Library was 1 million 463 thousand 488 in 2018 with an increase of 3.8%. Other materials in National Library was 197 thousand 216 in 2018 with an increase of 7% compared to 2017.

The number of beneficiaries of the National Library increased by 0.6% in 2018 compared to 2017 and reached to 633 thousand 999. In the same period, number of registered members of National Library decreased by 10.3% and became 23 thousand 747.

The number of registered members of public libraries increased by 29.1% in 2018 compared to 2017. It was 2 million 840 thousand 504 in 2018. The number of beneficiaries of public libraries increased by 12.6% in 2018 compared to the 2017. It was 28 million 242 thousand 986 in 2018. The number of other materials in public libraries decreased by 2.5% in 2018 compared to 2017.

The number of university libraries increased by 6% in 2018 compared to 2017 and reached to 598. The number of books in university libraries increased by 7.4% in 2018 compared to 2017 and became 17 million 600 thousand 15. The number of members registered in university libraries increased by 2.6% in 2018 compared to 2017. It was 3 million 912 thousand 306 in 2018.

The number of formal and non-formal education libraries which covered official schools, private schools and the private courses was increased by 12.4% in 2018 compared to 2017. Number of the movie houses increased by 6.2%In 2018, the number of movie houses increased by 6.2% compared to 2017 and reached 2 thousand 858. During this period, the number of seatings in the movie houses increased by 4.2% and audience capacity reached to 342 thousand 813.

Number of cinema audiences decreased by 5.4%

The number of moviegoers in Turkey decreased by 5.4% in 2018 compared to 2017 and was 64 million 772 thousand 380. While the number of national productions’ audience increased by 3.4% and reached 39 million 195 thousand 881, the number of foreign productions’ audience decreased by 16.4% and fall to 25 million 576 thousand 499 people.

The number of movies shown in 2018 increased by 12.5% compared to 2017 and reached to 65 thousand 501. In the same period, the number of national productions shown increased by 19.3% and reached 30 thousand 145, while the number of foreign productions shown increased by 7.3% and rose to 35 thousand 356.

In 2017-2018 season, the number of theater halls decreased by 6% compared to the 2016-2017 season and the number of theater seats increased by 9.5%. Number of the theater halls was 736 and the seating capacity reached 314 thousand 479.

As compared to the 2016-2017 season; the number of performances performed in theater halls increased by 6.6% and reached to 33 thousand 772 in 2017-2018 season. The number of performances for original shows performed in theater halls increased by 6.9% and the number of performances for translated/copyright shows increased by 5.3% compared to last season.

As compared to the 2016-2016 season; the number of shows performed in theatre halls increased by 4.8% and reached to 9 thousand 376 in 2017-2018 season. The number of original shows increased by 4.3% and the number of translated/copyright shows increased by 7.4% compared to last season. In 2017-2018 season, the number of theater audiences increased by 11.9% compared to the 2016-2017 season and reached 7 million 841 thousand 353. The number of theater audiences for original shows increased by 7.8% and the number of theater audiences for translated/copyright shows increased by 26.7% compared to last season.

As compared to the 2016-2017 season; the number of adult shows performed in theater halls increased by 6.6% and the number of children shows performed in theater halls increased by 3% in 2017-2018 season. In the same period, the number of audiences for adult shows increased by 14.2% and the number of audiences for children shows increased by 9.1%.

Price level index for food & non-alcoholic beverages main group in Turkey was 70Price level index is an indicator of purchasing power of national currencies according to currency conversion rates. If a country’s price level index is higher than 100, the country is concerned relatively “expensive” to the average of compared country group and if it is lower than 100 then it is relatively “cheap” against the same compared group.

Price level index is not just calculated for gross domestic product overall but also the main and sub-groups. One of these main groups is food, beverages and tobacco. For 37 countries comprised in the framework, price level indices and purchasing power parities figures are to be obtained not only for the main groups, but also the sub-groups and classes of food and non-alcoholic beverages main group such as breads and cereals, meats, etc.

Price level index for food and non-alcoholic beverages main group in Turkey was 70. This figure represents that the same basket of goods and services purchased for the cost of 100 Euros in total of 28 European Union countries, can be purchased for 70 Euros in Turkey.

The country groups included in the comparison were the 28 member states of European Union, 3 European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries (Switzerland, Iceland and Norway), 5 candidate countries (Turkey, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania) and 1 potential candidate country (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

In food and non-alcoholic beverages main group, Norway had the highest price level index with 163, whereas North Macedonia had the lowest with 62 among of 37 countries included in the comparison programme.

Price level index for tobacco sub-group in Turkey was 35

The price level index for “tobacco” sub-group of Turkey was 35 according to 2018 results. This figure shows that Turkey is 65% cheaper than EU average in “tobacco” sub-group. In addition, the sub-group having the highest price level index was “alcoholic beverages” with 163 for Turkey.

In Turkey, the highest price level index was realized in the “milk, cheese and eggs” with 96 and the lowest price level index was realized in “bread and cereals” with 61 within the classes of “food and non-alcoholic beverages” sub-group.

In Turkey, number of deaths was 426 thousand 106 in 2018

While the number of deaths was 426 thousand 504 according to the revised 2017 data, it was 426 thousand 106 persons in 2018 by decreasing 0.1%. 54.6% of deceased persons were males and 45.4% of deceased persons were females.

Crude death rate was 5.2 per thousand

While crude death rate which is the number of deaths per thousand persons was 5.3 per thousand in 2017, it was 5.2 per thousand in 2018.

Infant mortality rate was 9.3 per thousand

While the number of infant deaths was 12 thousand 118 in 2017, it was 11 thousand 629 in 2018. While infant mortality rate was 9.4 per thousand in 2017, it was 9.3 per thousand in 2018. In other words, the number of infant deaths was 9.3 per thousand live births in 2018.

The highest infant mortality rate was in Gaziantep with 15.3 per thousand

When the infant mortality rate was examined by provinces, the province having the highest infant mortality rate was Gaziantep with 15.3 per thousand in 2018. Gaziantep was followed by Mardin with 14.9 per thousand, Şırnak and Kilis with 14.5 per thousand. The province having the lowest infant mortality rate was Tunceli with 5 per thousand. Tunceli was followed by Kırklareli and Çanakkale with 5.1 per thousand, Giresun and Edirne with 6.4 per thousand.

65.3% of infants died before completing their 1st month and 87.5% before 5th

While the proportion of infants dying before completing their first month was 64.9% in 2017, this proportion was 65.3% in 2018. It was seen that infants died in first day with 12.7%, 1-6 days old with 31.5% and 7-29 days old with 21.1% in 2018. The proportion of infant deaths of 1-4 months old was 22.2% as well.

Under five mortality rate was 11.4 per thousand

Under five mortality rate which is the probability of dying during five years after birth was 11.4 per thousand in 2018 with no change compared to the previous year.

Number of suicides resulting in death was 3 thousand 161 in 2018

While the number of suicides resulting in death was 3 thousand 168 in 2017, it was 3 thousand 161 in 2018. 75.6% of people who committed suicide were males and 24.4% of them were females.

Crude suicide rate was decreased

While the crude suicide rate which is the number of suicides per hundred thousand population was 3.94 per hundred thousand in 2017, this rate decreased to 3.88 per hundred thousand in 2018. It means that in 2018 approximately four out of every one hundred thousand people committed suicide.

EXPLANATIONS

Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has published death statistics for the whole Turkey by using death data in the Central Civil Registration System (MERNIS) database, TurkStat cause of death data and suicide data sent by related institutions since 2009.

Death data were revised 3 years retrospectively due to late registration in the administrative records. Death statistics for 2015-2017 were revised as of March 31, 2019 and also death statistics for 2018 were announced as of the same date in this press release.

Suicide statistics has been published in the coverage of death statistics since 2017. Suicide events, which were only obtained from the registers of General Directorate of Security and General Command of Gendarmerie until 2012, have been obtained by also including the suicide registers obtained from cause of death data of TurkStat, and suicide registers of the Ministry of Justice, General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses and Presidency of General Staff since 2012, and Turkish Coast Guard Command since 2018, so the coverage of suicide statistics was expanded.

Suicide data of the previous year are revised due to late registration in the administrative records.

Cultural employment increased by 5.5%In 2018, 648 thousand people were included in cultural employment in Turkey with an increase of 5.5% compared to 2017.

The 50% of the cultural employees were males and 50% were females in 2018.

The 62.5% of the cultural employment was in the 30-54 age group

According to age groups, 62.5% of the people in cultural employment were in the 30-54 age group, 29% in the 15-29 age group and 8.6% in the 55 and over age group.

The 45.5% of people in cultural employment had education below high school

When analyzed according to the completed education level, 45.5% of the cultural employment was graduated from the schools lower than high school, 32.1% from tertiary education and 22.4% from high school and vocational high school.

The 59% of the cultural employment was regular or casual employee

Looking at the prevalence of cultural employment, 59% was regular or casual employee and 41% worked as employer, self-employed or unpaid family worker. The 71.3% of the people in cultural employment were working full-time while 28.7% were working part-time. The weekly average normal working time of persons in cultural employment was 37.7 hours.

The share of handicraft workers was 44.6%

The 87.3% of the people in cultural employment had a cultural occupation while 12.7% of the people in cultural employment had non-cultural occupations. According to cultural occupation groups, the share of handicraft workers was 44.6%, the share of architects, planners and surveyors was 14% and the share of creative and performing artists was 10%.

The share of architectural and specialised design activities was 10.5%

The 31% of the people in cultural employment had worked in cultural sectors while 69% of the people in cultural employment had worked in non-cultural sectors. According to cultural activities domain, the share of workers in “architectural and specialised design activities” was 10.5%, the share of “creative arts, performing arts and entertainment” workers was 6.8% and that of “programming, publishing and broadcasting activities” was 4.3%.

EXPLANATIONS

Cultural employment indicators began to be produced from 2014 for Turkey, taking into account Eurostat’s norms and standards and using the Household Labor Survey data, within the framework of the methodology recommended by the final report on “European Union Cultural Statistics”. In this release, it was aimed to measure the population working in cultural activities and occupations, determine its contribution to the total labor force and provide information on the cultural, economic and social conditions of the population working in the cultural occupations.

The final report on “European Union Cultural Statistics” described cultural employment according to occupation classification ISCO-08 and economic activity classification NACE Rev.2. In this framework, all persons working in cultural and non-cultural occupations in the field of cultural activity and cultural occupations in the non-cultural activity were accepted as cultural employment.

In Turkey, the opera and ballet shows affiliated to General Directorate of Opera and Ballet were performed in 6 provinces in 2018. On the other hand, there were 6 orchestras, 13 choirs and 9 groups affiliated to the General Directorate of Fine Arts in 2018.Number of opera and ballet audiences increased by 4.2%

The number of opera and ballet audiences was 293 thousand 2 in the 2017-2018 season, with an increase by 4.2% compared to the 2016-2017 season. The number of shows performed in opera and ballet halls increased by 2% to 202 in the 2017-2018 season compared to 2016-2017 season.

Number of performances in opera and ballet halls decreased by 5.3%

During the 2017-2018 season, the number of performances in opera and ballet halls was 648 with a decrease by 5.3% compared to the 2016-2017 season.

Number of audiences in orchestra, choir and groups decreased by 16.3%

The number of audiences in orchestra, choir and groups was 343 thousand 979 in the 2017-2018 season, with a decrease of 16.3% compared to 2016-2017 season. The number of orchestra audiences increased by 27.8% to 175 thousand 621 compared to last season, while the number of chorus audiences decreased by 4.3% to 59 thousand 170 and the number of groups’ audiences decreased by 48.4% to 109 thousand 188.

Number of orchestra performances increased by 14.9%

The number of shows performed by orchestras increased by 14.9% in the 2017-2018 season compared to the 2016-2017 season and became 224, while the number of shows performed by chorus decreased by 7.8% to 165 and the number of shows performed by groups decreased by 18.2% to 157.

Number of orchestra audiences increased by 108.4% in İzmir

The number of orchestra audiences increased by 108.4% in İzmir during the 2017-2018 season, while it decreased by 17.5% in Antalya.

Number of choir performances decreased by 7.8%

During the 2017-2018 season, the number of choir performances was 165 with a decrease by 7.8% compared to 2016-2017 season.

Choir audiences increased 123% in Diyarbakır and decreased 83.8% in İzmir

The number of chorus audiences increased by 123% in Diyarbakır, 37.5% in Sivas and 28% in Elazığ among the 10 provinces where choir performances were made in 2017-2018 season. İzmir with 83.8%, İstanbul with 27.2% and Ankara with 10.9% were the provinces with the greatest decrease in number of audiences in the same period.

Number of shows performed by groups decreased by 18.2%

The number of shows performed by groups was 157 in the 2017-2018 season with an increase of 18.2% compared to the 2016-2017 season.

Number of groups’ audiences decreased by 58% in İstanbul

The number of groups’ audiences was decreased in 3 provinces where the group shows were performed in the 2017-2018. The number of groups’ audiences was increased 7.6% in İzmir and 4.9% in Edırne. The number of audiences was decreased by 58% in İstanbul, 49.2% in Ankara and 47.5% in Konya.

Rate of the female personnel was 43.8% in operas and ballets

The number of staff working at the opera and ballets during the 2017-2018 season decreased by 0.3% compared to the 2016-2017 season. In 2017-2018 season, 2 thousand 491 personnel including guest performers served in opera and ballets affiliated to the General Directorate of Opera and Ballet. The 43.8% of this number was female personnel.

In orchestras, choirs and groups, 1 372 performer staff served

In the orchestras, choirs and groups affiliated to the General Directorate of Fine Arts, a total of 1 372 performer staff took part in the 2017-2018 season. The 348 of this staff were in orchestras, 636 were in choirs and 388 were in groups. The 42% of the performers serving in orchestras, 38.2% of the performers serving in choirs and 26.5% of the performers working in groups were female.

Number of live births was 1 million 248 thousand 847

While the number of live births was 1 million 295 thousand 784 according to the revised 2017 data, it was 1 million 248 thousand 847 in 2018. 51.3% of live births were boys and 48.7% of live births were girls.

Total fertility rate was 1.99 children

Total fertility rate means that the average number of live births that a woman would have under the assumption that she survived to the end of her reproductive life which is 15-49 age group and had a child according to a given age specific fertility rate.

While the total fertility rate was 2.07 children in 2017, this rate was 1.99 children in 2018. It means that a woman gave approximately 1.99 live births during her reproductive life. This showed that fertility remained below the population’s replacement level of 2.10.

The highest total fertility rate was in Şanlıurfa with 4.13 children

In 2018 the province having the highest total fertility rate was Şanlıurfa with 4.13 children. Şanlıurfa was followed by Şırnak with 3.6 children, Ağrı with 3.26 children and Muş with 3.23 children. The provinces having the lowest total fertility rate was Gümüşhane with 1.3 children. Gümüşhane was followed by Kütahya, Zonguldak and Edirne with 1.43 children.

Crude birth rate was 15.3 per thousand

Crude birth rate means that the number of live births per thousand population. While the crude birth rate was 16.1 per thousand in 2017, this rate was 15.3 per thousand in 2018. It means that while the number of live births was 16.1 per thousand population in 2017, the number of live births was 15.3 per thousand population in 2018.

The highest crude birth rate was in Şanlıurfa with 31.3 per thousand

When the crude birth rate was examined by provinces, in 2018 the province having the highest crude birth rate was Şanlıurfa with 31.3 per thousand. Şanlıurfa was followed by Şırnak with 27.2 per thousand, Muş with 25.7 per thousand and Ağrı with 25.3 per thousand. The province having the lowest crude birth rate was Edirne with 9.5 per thousand. Edirne was followed by Zonguldak with 9.7 per thousand, Giresun, Gümüşhane, Kırklareli, Bartın and Kastamonu with 9.9 per thousand.

The highest age specific fertility rate was in 25-29 age group

Age specific fertility rate means that the average number of live births per thousand women in certain age group.When the fertility rate was examined by age group, it was seen that the highest age specific fertility rate was in 25-29 age group. While the age specific fertility rate in this age group was 130 per thousand in 2013, this rate was 128 per thousand in 2018. In other words, the number of live births was 128 per thousand women in 25-29 age group in 2018.

Adolescent fertility rate decreased

Adolescent fertility rate means that the average number of live births per thousand women in 15-19 age group. While the adolescent fertility rate was 29 per thousand in 2013, this rate decreased to 19 per thousand in 2018. In other words, the number of live births was 19 per thousand women in 15-19 age group in 2018.

Birth statistics was started to be produced from the Central Civil Registration System (MERNIS) database after MERNIS had on-line application in 2001. Birth data were revised 5 years retrospectively due to delayed registrations in the administrative records. Birth statistics for 2013-2017 were updated as of March 31, 2019 and also birth statistics for 2018 were announced as of the same date in this press release.
