The Pirelli Group, one of the leading industry groups in the world with a history of more than 140 years, has been operating in Turkey for more than 50 years. Founded as the first Turkish tire factory in May 1960, Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. put the first tire to be locally produced in the Izmit factory on the road in 1962.
Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. continues to contribute greatly to the Turkish economy with its turnover of TRY 1.2 billion in 2014 (60 percent of which comes from exports), 2,000 employees and over 400 authorized dealers.
Located in Izmit-Kocaeli on a closed area of 130,000 square meters, the factory of Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. is one of the largest Pirelli Group manufacturing sites under one roof in terms of tonnage and types of manufacturing. The Izmit factory has a manufacturing capacity of 7 million tires annually, producing 675 types of tires for the main groups of light commercial vehicles, trucks and motorsports.
In addition to high-quality tires manufactured for the domestic and international markets, Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. has been a pioneer organization in many fields from motorsports to education, cultural and art activities, and social responsibility projects. Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. won the “Japan Industrial Quality Award” (TPM) in October 1994, becoming the second organization to win this award outside Japan with its success of being the first factory in the world to implement this system in the tire sector.
In 2002, Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. was awarded the prestigious Pirelli Group “Challenge” award as a result of the assessment using excellence criteria in management. As it was also awarded the “Supply Industry Certificate of Achievement” by the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) in the same year, Turk Pirelli was selected as one of the most successful companies in the automotive supply industry and received the “Supply Industry Certificate of Achievement” again in 2008 with its success in quality, delivery reliability, collaboration in technology development and affordable price policy.
Having established a research and development unit in 2008, Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. is contributing to the technological development of Turkey.
The high-performance tires that are used by the world’s leading motorsport organizations and on the vehicles of selective automobile companies have been manufactured in the Turk Pirelli factory in Izmit since 2007.
In addition, environmentally friendly Cinturato series tires with no aromatic oils have been manufactured in the Izmit factory since 2008.
Having been selected as the sole tire provider of all Formula 1 teams between 2011 and 2017, the Pirelli Group produces all F1 tires at the Izmit factory and carries out research and development activities for F1 tires with a team consisting of Italian and Turkish specialists.
Moreover, as the Pirelli Group’s production base for race tires, the Izmit factory also manufactures tires for the most prestigious motor races such as the World Rally Championship (WRC), GrandAm, Ferrari Challenge and Porsche Cup.
Over the last 50 years, Turk Pirelli Lastikleri A.S. has achieved countless successes in areas ranging from motorsport to social responsibility and marketing activities, and has greatly contributed to the development of the region where its factory has been located since the first years of its establishment. Turk Pirelli Primary School in Kocaeli was opened in 1968, while Izmit Kosekoy Pirelli High School was opened within the framework of “100 Percent Support for Education” in 2008.
