57.7% of the abstracted water was treated
Out of 6.2 billion m3 of water abstracted to water supply networks, 3.6 billion m3 was treated in water treatment plants. 92.1% of this amount was treated by conventional methods, 7.8% was treated by advanced methods, and 0.1% was treated by physical methods.
Water supply networks served 98.6% of the municipal population
In 2018, the rate of municipal population served by water supply networks in total municipal population was 98.6%, whereas the rate of municipal population served by water treatment plants was 60.1% in total municipal population.
Average amount of water abstracted per capita per day was 224 liters
The average amount of water abstracted by municipalities to water supply networks is calculated as 224 liters per capita per day. Concerning the three largest cities, the average amount of abstracted water per capita per day was 189 liters for İstanbul, 239 liters for Ankara, and 208 liters for İzmir.
