In the fourth quarter; which is October, November and December months of 2017, 10 million 773 thousand residents had domestic trips. Domestic trips with one or more than one overnights, increased by 28.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached to 13 million 770 thousand trips.
Annually, domestic trips increased by 12.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 77 million 179 thousand.
Domestic visitors spent 403 TL on average
In this quarter, domestic visitors made 92 million 536 thousand overnights. While average number of overnights was 6.7, average expenditure per trip was 403 TL.
In this year, total number of overnights increased by 9.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 665 million 194 thousand. While average number of overnights was 8.6, average expenditure per trip was 457 TL in 2017.
Domestic visitors spent 5 billion 548 million 416 thousand TL
In this quarter, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 39.8% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 5 billion 548 million 416 thousand TL.
In this year, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 25.9% compared to the previous year and reached to 35 billion 305 million 804 thousand TL.

Domestic tourism expenditures were composed of individual expenditures and package tour expenditures. In this quarter, while 97.9% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 5 billion 432 million 242 thousand TL,2.1% of it was package tour expenditures with 116 million 174 thousand TL.
Annually, while 91.8% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 32 billion 405 million 882 thousand TL, 8.2% of it was package tour expenditures with 2 billion 899 million 922 thousand TL.
Primary purpose of trip was “visiting relatives” with 73.6%
The secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 8.7% and the third was “health” with 8.4%.
Annually, while “visiting relatives” was the primary purpose of trip with 67.5%, secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 20.7% and the third was “health” with 5.8%.
Domestic visitors stayed mostly at house of friend and relative
In this quarter, according to number of overnights by type of accommodation, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 67 million 892 thousand overnights. While “own house” took second place with 15 million 725 thousand overnights, “hotel” took third place with 4 million 604 thousand overnights.
Annually, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 477 million 322 thousand overnights. “Own house” took second place with 104 million 726 thousand overnights and “hotel” took third place with 43 million 214 thousand overnights.
