Ericsson, the world leader in communications technology and service, works in 180 countries and employs more than 115 people, in line with its vision of “the Networked Society”. Ericsson’s services, software and infrastructure – particularly in mobility, broadband and the cloud – enable the telecoms industry and other sectors to conduct better business, increase efficiency, improve user experience and capture new opportunities. Ericsson combines global scale with technology and services leadership, and supports networks that connect more than 2.5 billion subscribers. 40 percent of the world’s mobile traffic is carried over Ericsson’s networks.

In operation for 138 years, L.M. Ericsson made its first investment in the Turkish market in 1890 by installing the telephone line, which is still operating in Dolmabahce Palace. In 1925, Ericsson, the first 100 percent foreign capital company in Turkey, opened its Izmir Exchange Station with the capacity to serve 2,416 subscribers, and for 123 years it has been expanding its business activities in Turkey also to cover the neighboring countries.

Founded in 2001, Ericsson Mobility World (Crea World) has exported solutions developed by many companies to the entire world, and was awarded the “Best New Services” in London in 2002. Continuing its R&D activities by opening its Expert Center in Turkey serving the CEMA (Central Europe, Middle East, Africa) region, Ericsson also opened its third IMS Center in Turkey.

In 2002, the “Ericsson Response” project was launched to ensure communication among emergency teams during disasters. During the 2004 earthquake in Iran, Ericsson installed an emergency communications system in the area in 24 hours with a capacity for 5,000 people.

Increasing its R&D investments in Turkey, Ericsson first acquired 100 percent of a technology company, Bizitek, in 2008. Later, by incorporating ST-Ericsson, it founded the Ericsson Microelectronics R&D center. In 2012, all R&D activities were incorporated under Ericsson Research, Development and Informatics Inc. Since September 2015, Ericsson Turkey’s R&D team provides services through innovative activities in various fields of information and telecoms technologies together with more than 550 R&D and technical support employees based in its Istanbul and Izmir locations.

Currently, Ericsson Turkey’s R&D team carries out research cooperation with several major universities in Turkey, as well as several European research programs such as Celtic+, ITEA, H2020, in addition to local TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) projects. Also as a result of these activities, Ericsson has applied for a number of patents to secure its IPRs in the designated research areas.

In 2009, Ericsson Turkey transformed its in-house corporate training, based on its global experience and knowledge, to a training center investing USD 5 million. Carrying on its activities in Ericsson’s headquarters in Istanbul-Maslak to train qualified and technical personnel in telecommunication industry for Turkey and neighboring countries, “Ericsson Academy” was officially opened on November 4, 2011.

In 2012, Ericsson Turkey ranked first in a total of seven categories in the Informatics 500, which listed the top 500 companies in the Turkish informatics sector. These categories included: “System Integration”, “Software System Integration”, “Hardware System Integration”, “Telecommunication Infrastructure Hardware”, “CRM Software`”, “Sectoral Software” and “Installation-Maintenance-Support”. In addition, in 2014 and 2015, Ericsson Turkey ranked second in the “Great Place to Work” competition in the category of companies with 500-2000 employees.

Ericsson Turkey has supported many social responsibility projects in environment and education. These include the restoration of Bodrum’s ancient city wall, which lasted for six years and is still under maintenance work; the Magnesia excavation, which lasted for five years; and education projects such as “The Step to Save the World”, “Girls of the Information Society” and “Crea Academy”. Recently, Ericsson Turkey initiated a free ICT training certification program at the Ericsson Academy for selected university students. Moreover, the company also offers several mentorship programs, seminars for students and sponsorships for university clubs.
