Consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.62% in May 2018A rise in general index was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 1.62%, on December of the previous year by 6.39%, on same month of the previous year by 12.15% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 11.10% in May 2018.
The highest monthly increase was 5.21% in clothing and footwear
In May 2018, the indices rose for transportation 2.32%, for miscellaneous goods and services 2.06%, for hotels, cafes and restaurants and for food and non-alcoholic beverages 1.45%.
The least monthly increase was in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.15%
There was no decrease in the main expenditure groups in May 2018. The least monthly increase was in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.15% amongst main expenditure groups.
The highest annual increase was 20.02% in transportation
Furnishing and household equipment with 16.87%, miscellaneous goods and services with 15.38%, hotels, cafes and restaurants with 12.51% and housing with 11.24% were the other main groups where high annual increases realized.
The highest monthly increase was 2.66% in TR81 (Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın)
The highest increases in CPI were recorded in TR61 (Antalya, Isparta, Burdur) region with 7.77% compared with the December of the previous year, TR63 (Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye) region with 13.99% compared with the same month of the previous year and in TR63 (Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Osmaniye) region with 12.08% on the twelve months moving averages basis.
In May 2018 within average prices of 407 items in the index, average prices of 58 items remained unchanged while average prices of 279 items increased and average prices of 70 items decreased.
