In 2017, the number of movie houses increased by 8.4% compared to 2016 and reached 2 thousand 692. During this period, the number of seatings in the movie houses increased by 7% and audience capacity reached 328 thousand 845.
The number of cinema audiences increased by 23.9%
The number of moviegoers in Turkey increased by 23.9% in 2017 compared to 2016 and reached 68 million 482 thousand 526. While the number of national productions’ audience increased by 31.5% and reached 37 million 904 thousand 91, the number of foreign productions’ audience increased by 15.7% and rose to 30 million 578 thousand 435 people.

The number of national productions shown was increased by 11.6%
The number of movies shown in 2017 increased by 8.9% compared to 2016 and reached 58 thousand 214. In the same period, the number of national productions shown increased by 11.6% and reached 25 thousand 275, while the number of foreign productions shown increased by 6.9% and rose to 32 thousand 939.

Number of provinces with no movie houses was 4
A number of provinces that do not have movie house were 4 in 2017. The provinces that do not have movie house were Ardahan, Bayburt, Şırnak, and Tunceli.
The number of theater seats increased by 9.7%
In the 2016-2017 season, the number of theater halls increased by 8.6% compared to the 2015-2016 season and the number of theater seats has increased by 9.7%. The number of the theater halls reached 783 and the seating capacity reached 287 thousand 214.
The number of performances performed in theater halls increased by 18.2%
As compared to the 2015-2016 season; the number of performances performed in theater halls increased by 18.2% and reached 31 thousand 690 in the 2016-2017 season. The number of performances for original shows performed in theater halls increased by 19.8% and the number of performances for translated/copyright shows increased by 12.8% compared to last season.
The number of theatre audiences increased by 16.4%
As compared to the 2015-2016 season; the number of shows performed in theatre halls increased by 15.2% and reached 8 thousand 948 in the 2016-2017 season. The number of original shows increased by 15.3% and the number of translated/copyright shows increased by 14.5% compared to last season. In the 2016-2017 season, the number of theater audiences increased by 16.4% compared to the 2015-2016 season and reached 7 million 6 thousand 410. The number of theater audiences for original shows increased by 19.6% and the number of theater audiences for translated/copyright shows increased by 6.6% compared to last season.

The number of adult shows performed in theater halls increased by 3.4%
As compared to the 2015-2016 season; the number of adult shows performed in theater halls increased by 3.4% and the number of children shows performed in theater halls increased by 29.5% in the 2016-2017 season. In this period, while the number of performances for adult shows performed in theater halls increased by 5%, the number of performances for children shows increased by 37.1% and reached 15 thousand 60. In the same period, the number of audiences for adult shows increased by 7.9% and the number of audiences for children shows increased by 29%.
