Number of bovine animals decreased by 0.7% compared to the previous year, and became 18 million 36 thousand heads
In the group of bovine animals, number of cattle decreased by 0.6%, and became 17 million 851 thousand heads; number of buffalo declined by 3.6%, and became 185 thousand 574 heads.
Number of sheep and goats increased by 6.3% compared to the previous year, and became 57 million 519 thousand heads
In the group of sheep and goats, number of sheep increased by 7.2%, and became 45 million 178 thousand heads; number of goat increased by 3%, and became 12 million 342 thousand heads.

While wool, hair and mohair production increased, honey and silkworm cocoon production decreased
Compared to the previous year, wool production amount increased by 7.7% and became 85 thousand 916 tonnes, hair production amount increased by 4.7% and became 6 thousand 700 tonnes, and mohair production amount increased by 1.1% and became 468 tonnes.
Honey production decreased by 7.4% in 2021 when compared to the previous year, and became 96 thousand 344 tonnes.
Number of villages in action of sericulture increased by 0.5% in 2021 when compared to the previous year, and became 665 units. Number of households involved in sericulture increased by 2.8%, and became 2 thousand 21 units. Number of egg boxes opened increased by 4.4%, and became 6 thousand 29 units, while silkworm cocoon reduced by 15.1%, and became 76 tonnes.

EXPLANATIONS
Data on the number of bovine animals, sheep and goats, poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, and goose), and apiculture are compiled via Statistical Information System (SIS) system by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoAF) in district detail. SIS is a data entry system within the MoAF, where the data are entered by the responsible staff in the province and district offices of MoAF in electronic environment.
Production amounts of wool, hair, and mohair which are derivative variables are calculated by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) from data derived via SIS.
Within the scope of this bulletin, the reference date of the data on the number of livestock is 31 December 2021. Data on animal products cover the total production in the period of January-December 2021.
