Environmental Protection Expenditure Statistics, 2018, in Turkey
Environmental protection expenditure was 38.2 billion TL
Total environmental protection expenditure amounted to 38.2 billion TL by an increase of 11.6% compared to the previous year in 2018. Out of total environmental protection expenditure, 56.6% was realized by financial and non-financial corporations, 36.3% was realized by general government and non-profit institutions serving households and 7.1% was realized by households.
Environmental protection expenditure centered upon waste management
In total environmental protection expenditure, waste management services accounted for 47.5%, wastewater management services accounted for 35.6%, protection of biodiversity and landscapes accounted for 6.8%, protection and remediation of soil, groundwater and surface water accounted for 3.6% and other environmental protection domains accounted for 6.5%.
Environmental protection investment expenditure was 7.1 billion TL
Out of 7.1 billion TL of environmental protection investment expenditure, 63.8% was realized by financial and non-financial corporations and 36.2% was realized by general government. While environmental protection investment expenditure was 3.1 billion TL for wastewater management services and 1.8 billion TL for waste management services, it was 2.2 billion TL for other domains.
Share of environmental protection expenditure in GDP was 1%
While share of environmental protection expenditure in gross domestic product was 1.1% in 2017, it was 1% in 2018.

EXPLANATIONS
Environmental protection expenditure statistics were produced by collecting data from the administrative records of Revenue Administration, national accounts, structural business statistics and data compiled from the questionnaires applied to enterprises that have 50 or more employees in “mining and quarrying”, 150 or more employees in “manufacturing” and 10 or more employees in “electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply” sector.
