Municipal Waste Statistics, 2018, in Turkey
32.2 million tonnes of municipal waste was collected
According to the results of Municipal Waste Statistics Survey 2018, which was applied to all municipalities, 1 395 municipalities out of 1 399 provided waste services. It is determined that municipalities, which provided waste services, collected 32 million 209 thousand tonnes of waste.
The average amount of waste per capita per day is calculated as 1.16 kg
According to the survey results, the average amount of municipal waste per capita per day is calculated as 1.16 kg in 2018. Considering the three largest cities, the average amount of waste collected per capita per day was 1.28 kg for İstanbul, 1.18 kg for Ankara, and 1.36 kg for İzmir.
67.2% of municipal waste was delivered to controlled landfill sites
Out of 32 million 209 thousand tonnes of waste collected by municipalities that provided waste services, 67.2% was transferred to controlled landfill sites, 20.2% to municipal dumping sites, 12.3% to waste recovery facilities and 0.2% was disposed of by other methods such as burning in an open area, burying and dumping into river/onto land.
