Sectoral Confidence Indices in Turkey, May 2017

Services confidence index increased to 102
Seasonally adjusted confidence index which was 99.9 for services in April increased by 2.1% in May to 102. This increase in the services confidence index stemmed from the increased number of managers evaluating “business situation” as improved and “demand-turnover” as increased over the past three months plus expecting an increase in “demand-turnover” over the next three months.

In services sector; business situation, demand-turnover and demand-turnover expectation indices increased by 2.7%, 2.8% and 0.9% respectively compared to the previous month.

Retail trade confidence index increased to 102.8
Seasonally adjusted retail trade confidence index increased by 1.1% in May to 102.8. This increase in the retail trade confidence index resulted from the increased number of managers evaluating improved “business activity-sales” over the past three months and expecting an improvement in “business activity-sales” over the next three months. The number of managers evaluating “current volume of stock” as below normal for the season decreased.

In retail trade sector; business activity-sales and business activity-sales expectation indices increased by 0.2% and 4.6% respectively while current volume of stock index decreased by 1.7% compared to the previous month.

Construction confidence index realized as 86.3
Seasonally adjusted construction confidence index which was 85.7 in previous month increased by 0.8% in May to 86.3. This rise in the construction confidence index stemmed from the increased number of managers expecting an increase in “total employment” over the next three months. The number of managers evaluating “current overall order books” as above normal for the season decreased.

In construction sector; total employment expectation index increased by 1.6% while current overall order books index decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month.
