In the fourth quarter; which is October, November and December months of 2016, 8 million 467 thousand residents had domestic trips. Domestic trips with one or more than one overnights, decreased by 5.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and declined to 10 million 688 thousand trips.
Annually, domestic trips decreased by 3.9% compared to the previous year and declined to 68 million 450 thousand.
Domestic visitors spent 371 TL on average
In this quarter, domestic visitors made 74 million 786 thousand overnights. While average number of overnights was 7, average expenditure per trip was 371 TL.
In this year, total number of overnights increased by 2.9% compared to the previous year and reached to 605 million 608 thousand. While average number of overnights was 8.8, average expenditure per trip was 410 TL in 2016.
Domestic visitors spent 3 billion 968 million 113 thousand TL
In this quarter, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 1.5% compared to same quarter of previous year and reached to 3 billion 968 million 113 thousand TL.
In this year, trip expenditures of domestic tourists increased by 14.8% compared to the previous year and reached to 28 billion 33 million 83 thousand TL.

Annually, while 91.1% of domestic tourism expenditure was individual with 25 billion 542 million 766 thousand TL, 8.9% of it was package tour expenditures with 2 billion 490 million 316 thousand TL.
Primary purpose of trip was “visiting relatives” with 72.2%
The secondary purpose of trip was “health” with 9.1% and the third was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 8.1%.
Annually, while “visiting relatives” was the primary purpose of trip with 65.9%, secondary purpose of trip was “travel, leisure, holiday” with 21.5% and the third was “health” with 6.3%.
Domestic visitors stayed mostly at house of friend and relative
In this quarter, according to number of overnights by type of accommodation, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 50 million 491 thousand overnights. While “own house” took second place with 12 million 837 thousand overnights, “hotel” took third place with 3 million 501 thousand overnights.
Annually, domestic visitors stayed mostly at “house of friend and relative” with 413 million 925 thousand overnights. “Own house” took second place with 107 million 831 thousand overnights and “hotel” took third place with 40 million 910 thousand overnights.
